Who Am I?
Hello!
I'm Ruth, welcome to the wild and vibrant world inside of my head. What you see before you is a concerted effort to get it all down onto paper before it escapes out into elsewhere. Besides, I tried a real job once. I didn't like it, and it didn't much like me either.

my 'Why'
I’ve always been drawn to the stranger side of nature. Not the perfectly curated garden version, but the weirder bits - the creatures that look like they were designed on a Friday afternoon when everyone was tired and on the edge of reckless. Lizards, mushrooms, frogs, pangolins. Things with texture, personality and forcefulness.
To me, they feel honest. Nature isn’t neat, minimal or particularly concerned with being tasteful. It’s bold, chaotic, patterned and occasionally ridiculous – and yet it works beautifully. That tension between order and chaos, elegance and oddness, is what I’m always trying to capture.

The Design behind
From a distance, the pieces are graphic and bold, built on strong shapes, clear compositions and confident colour. Up close, they slow down. Layers of pencil, texture, and small decisions reveal themselves, and the character of the subject begins to emerge. I like that shift between the immediate impact and the quieter details.

My process
Most pieces begin with a ground of bright acrylic inks because they give a blazing hot undertone that doesn't budge – no matter how much I furiously scribble on top. Then I sketch my design and paint with pencil and crayon – in some parts building up colour, and in others allowing the undertone to shine through.
I often work with mixed media too, layering and blending until the forms feel solid, tactile and full of movement. It’s a balance between structure and play, observation and experimentation.

Who's it for?
I've noticed my art tends to attract people who share that slightly off-kilter sense of life - people who like good design but don’t want everything to feel safe. If you enjoy colour, character and a bit of personality on your walls, you’re in the right place.
